As a beginner, I would advise anyone trying out BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) to pace themselves, unless they already have a solid training foundation with good strength and mobility in their muscles.
Unfortunately, BJJ takes a heavy toll on your body from all the isometric strength you do while trying to pull/push/move heavy people who are also trying to do the same to you.
List of important body parts to strengthen:
- Elbows
- Knees
- Shoulders
